Good hand clips are an important part of the toolkit for any product builder. In the modern market of construction tools there is a huge amount of various clamps, which differ among themselves in both the material of manufacture and the basic functions. The only problem with the purchase of such a product is its price, which is difficult to justify if you use the clamp once for a specific product. An excellent way out of this situation is to make a clip with your own hands, and what will be discussed later.

How to make a wooden vice?
Before you begin to design this tool, you need to prepare such tools and materials:
- drill with nozzles;
- a hacksaw;
- 2 slats 2x4x24 cm;
- 2 plywood plates 1,5x15x20 cm;
- 2 studs about 20 cm long with a cross section of 5 mm;
- 2 studs 12 cm long with a cross section of 5 mm;
- self-tapping screws.
Usually homemade clutches are attached to the surface of the desktop. To do this, 2 holes are drilled in the rails so that the nuts with the studs are tightly pressed to each other. To increase the reliability and durability of the clamp, the lower timber must be placed flat, and the upper timber, with an edge to the surface of the workplace. After that, plywood boards are applied to the rails. You need to place them so that the bottom protrudes 20-30 mm outwards and 80 mm upwards. Then these elements are drilled through. The studs will be inserted into the holes later.

One plate with screws is firmly attached to the lower bar, and the second wooden plate will be pressed against the part. This design will carry out the capture and fixation of the workpiece using a movable plywood plate, and with the help of short studs it will be fixed to the table. To determine the working stroke of the clamp, long pins are used, and nuts are used to fasten the moving part and adjust the clamping force.
Similar homemade products, an example of which is shown in Fig. 1, it is easy enough to do it yourself, but they will have a little strength, so they can be used when performing simple work.Back to table of contents
How to make a metal joinery clamps
This version of the clamp will have greater strength than a wooden tool, so it can be used for more complex operations. A simple metal clamp can be constructed from a steel sheet with a thickness of 7 mm, a M8 or M10 threaded rod and several nuts of the same size.
First of all, use the template to mark the bracket on the metal blank. In this case, one edge of the bracket should be longer than the second.
The size of the clamp is selected depending on the specific conditions of its operation.
After that, a staple is cut out according to the markup. For these works it is recommended to use a gas cutter or an acetylene torch. After the workpiece is cut, it needs to be sanded and smooth edges, for which you can use a grinder.
Nuts are used as a clamp, which must be welded to the short side. After that, the transverse handle is welded to one side of the threaded rod, and the other end is inserted into the welded nuts. The clamp is ready for use for its intended purpose.
Another option of the metal vice is a homemade version of a hacksaw. To design it, you will need a hacksaw body, two threaded rods and suitable nuts. Simply insert the rods into the clamping connectors of the hacksaw body. Nuts are screwed on the inside of the housing. The received vice will have 2 standard sizes as the hacksaw frame can be displayed in 2 positions.
Since the clamp on the basis of a hacksaw will have a folding structure, it will break in the middle under mechanical action. To avoid this, the folding part must be wrapped with tape or tape.
