Anyone who has a private house, sooner or later, is faced with shaped pipes. They are used in the design of fences from the grid-chain-link or corrugated flooring, installation of carports for cars, the production of various furniture, etc. In most cases, the manufacturing technology of certain products requires the bending of the profile at a certain angle.

Manual Profilebib

Manual profilebib is used in the design of fences from a chain-link mesh or sheeting, installation of carports, furniture manufacturing, etc.

For these purposes, there is a special device called profilegib. You can buy it in almost any hardware store, but it is worth considering that the cost of such equipment is rather big. Therefore, if you need a pipe bender to perform a small amount of work, buying it is unprofitable. It will be much easier to make a manual profileb with your own hands, what will be discussed later.

Types of manual pipe benders

Manual profile-bends are great for private use. There are many options for the manufacture of such a tool at home, each of which differs by the method of bending the profiled pipe:

Bend of profile pipes

Figure 1. The essence of the profile bend of the pipes - along the profile necessary to bend, the rollers move, which give it the desired bend radius.

  1. Special rollers are moved along the profile that needs to be bent, as a result of which the required bend radius is attached to it. Such a device bends a pipe around a fixed frame and is ideal for processing stainless steel profiles (Fig. 1). The maximum bending radius is 180 °.
  2. The bend is carried out by a special tool that squeezes the pipe in the right place (Fig. 2). Such a device is equipped with a ratchet mechanism, which can significantly increase the force.

Making a simple profilegib do it yourself

If you need to bend a pipe with a diameter of no more than 2 cm, then for this purpose you can make profile-bend manual elementary construction. It is enough just to drill holes in the concrete slab and fix metal pins in them. If you do not have a suitable plate, you can make it yourself. For this you will need:

  • cement;
  • sand;
  • rubble;
  • steel channel bars or pipe sections with a cross section of at least 7 cm.

Figure 2. The bend is made with a special tool that squeezes the pipe in the right place.

The concrete base is created using a cement-sand mortar in the ratio of 1 to 4, respectively. On the prepared area, sprinkled with rubble, metal channels are mounted vertically strictly, maintaining a distance between them within 40-50 mm. After this, the pad is filled with the prepared solution.

It is necessary to ensure that the channels were placed at right angles to the ground. After the solution hardens (about 3 days), the pipe bender can be used as follows: a metal profile, which should be bent, is pushed between the channels and bent to the desired angle in the right direction.

Another profileibib manual simple design works on the principle of bending the profile on the prepared template. For the manufacture of this tool does not need to have any diagrams and drawings, it is enough to spend only 20-40 minutes of free time.

Fixing the stop to the template

Figure 3. In addition to the template made of wood, a stop is also attached to the base; a profile will rest against it during bending.

The template is created using wooden planks, which are interconnected in any way convenient for you (nails, screws, glue or corners). The material for such a pipe bender should be chosen in such a way that its thickness is somewhat larger than the diameter of the bent pipe. Further on the boards, the necessary form of the template is drawn with a pencil, after which it is cut out by a grinder or other tool at hand.

Then the resulting pattern with nails is fixed on some basis (for example, on the table). In addition to the template, a stop is attached to the base (Fig. 3). During bending, the profile will rest against it. With the help of such a device, it is possible to bend a shaped pipe of any radius. This will only change the size of the template.

How to make a roller tube bender with your own hands?

This device allows you to bend the steel profile by 360 °. The bending process is carried out with the help of 3 rollers (2 supporting pipes for fixing the pipe and 1 worker, which will exert a deforming pressure on the bend profile).

The roller should be installed in such a way that it can move freely.

The drawing of the roller bender is shown in fig. 4. To construct such a device, you need to prepare the following tools and materials:

  • welding machine;
  • Bulgarian;
  • drill;
  • hammer;
  • metal plates;
  • steel corners;
  • wooden template made of planks with a thickness of 30 mm;
  • 3 rollers;
  • bolt;
  • fasteners;
Drawing roller bender

Figure 4. Drawing roller bender.

For the manufacture of guides, it is necessary to prepare 4 metal corners of 5x5 cm, about 30 cm long, and also a steel plate with a thickness of 0.6-1 cm, which will serve as the base of the whole structure. Angular guides and auxiliary rollers will be mounted on this plate by welding.

To facilitate the assembly process, you can use a wooden template that needs to be attached to a metal plate. It will provide the required mutual placement of the guides and their secure fit. To enhance the mechanical strength of the device, several steel angles can be welded to the bottom of the base.

Next, in the upper part of the guides, the second plate is welded, after which a hole is drilled in it to install a screw that will serve as a support for the bend profile.

In order not to break the bolt during operation, it is recommended to use parts with a kinematic thread of a trapezoidal or rectangular cross section as a support element. As such a detail, a screw from a failed bench clamp is perfect. It is additionally equipped with a working handle, which will greatly simplify the process of bending the profile pipe.

Properly designed pipe bender will allow you to create the required bending radius of a shaped pipe without flattening it, breaking it and loss of strength. The minimum possible bending radius depends on the pipe section and is determined using special tables. Failure to comply with the values given in the tables may result in cracks on the pipe surface or complete rupture of the material.
