How to design a homemade cultivator at home

The cultivator is an agricultural equipment that is designed to loosen the soil. This tool is an indispensable tool at the dacha, without which tillage can become a real headache. Modern cultivators are quite expensive, so not every summer resident can acquire such a unit. The way out of this situation is a homemade cultivator that will cope with the task as well as the purchased equipment. Therefore, further will be considered how to make a cultivator at home.

DIY cultivator design

On the agricultural equipment market, cultivators are represented by various models that differ in power, structure, dimensions and capabilities. It can be manual, electric, petrol units and motor blocks.

Although it is unlikely that you will be able to construct a walk-behind tractor with your own hands, lighter hand-held devices for the cultivation of the land will be fully possible for every summer resident. Next, we will consider several models of home-made cultivators that can be made at home:

• cultivator "Tornado";
• bicycle cultivator;
• cultivator of chainsaw.

How to make a cultivator like "Tornado"?

The lightest design is the Tornado cultivator. This device resembles a corkscrew, which is equipped with a vertical stand and a horizontal handle. To make such a model, you will need the following tools and materials:

• hacksaw;
• hammer;
• file;
• knife;
• spring steel tape or ordinary forks;
• wooden stalk;
• plastic pipe;
• plastic handles;
• insulating tape.

Nozzle for the "Tornado" can be made in 2 ways: from forks and springy steel. In the first case, the tool forks will be ordinary forks, the teeth of which with a hammer must be given the desired bend. After this nozzle is attached to a wooden handle. To make such a cultivator with your own hands easy to use, in the hardware store you need to buy plastic handles that are used for various equipment (forks, shovels, sap, etc.).

A piece of plastic pipe 50 cm long will serve as a lever. When choosing a pipe diameter, it should be noted that it should slightly exceed the thickness of the plastic handles.. The plastic tube is cut from both ends so that they are twisted and placed on the handles. For a more reliable fixing handles, you can use tape. As a result of this operation, you should receive a lever that protrudes 20-25 cm from the cutting on both sides. The last stage of the work will be the attachment of the cutting to the lever.

As a nozzle, you can also use a steel tape with a length of 0.5 m, a width of 20 mm and a thickness of 1.0-1.5 mm. The tape is bent in the form of a loop and attached to a wooden handle. In this case, the edges of the tape are carefully sharpened with a file, which will facilitate the work of such a cultivator.

Homemade cultivator on the basis of a bicycle

To make a cultivator with your own hands of this type, you must prepare:

• welding machine;
• hacksaw;
• pliers;
• keys set;
• frame and steering wheel from a bicycle;
• wheel;
• pointed paw;
• fasteners;
• paper;
• pencil.

First, on a piece of paper you need to make a diagram of the future product. In fig. 3 shows an example of a cultivator made on the basis of a bicycle. After that, install the cultivation paw on the bicycle frame using the fastening pad and fasten it well with bolts so that it does not dangle in the process of work.

Next, install the wheel on the frame in the same way as on an ordinary bicycle. A bicycle or support wheel from any car can be used as a wheel.

The wheel for the cultivator should not be too big or too small, because both in the first and in the second case such device will work inconveniently.

As a control element, you can use a bicycle wheel or metal tubes welded together in a T-shaped way. After installing each element, it is necessary to check the reliability of its fastening. After the end of the assembly, it can be painted in a practical color to give the cultivator a beautiful appearance.

Chainsaw Cultivator

If the area under the garden is large enough, then home-made manual cultivators will work poorly for its processing. In this case, it is recommended to construct a homemade cultivator based on a chainsaw.

For the manufacture of such a unit you need to prepare the following tools and materials:

• welding machine;
• angle grinder;
• keys set;
• pliers;
• working motor from a chainsaw;
• fuel tank;
• chain from bike or motorcycle;
• intermediate shaft;
• intermediate and leading asterisk;
• wheels;
• metal corners;
• metal pipe.

First of all, with the help of metal corners, the frame of the future home-made cultivator is welded in the form of a cube 320x320 mm in size. The engine from the chainsaw is fastened to the upper part of the transverse corners and a fuel tank is installed, for which it is recommended to weld a bracket of 150x150 mm.

Then, supports for the intermediate shaft are attached to the corner upper vertical posts. After that, for mounting the bearings of the traveling shaft, the supports are fixed to the longitudinal angles.

The center of gravity of such equipment will come on the bearing surface of the wheels, which will allow more comfortable to operate the cultivator. To construct the handles you need to prepare a metal pipe with a cross section of at least 3 cm.

Also for the operation of the unit it is necessary to have 2 asterisks: the leading (suitable asterisk from the motorcycle) and intermediate for 41 teeth. After assembling all the elements into a whole, you can use a chainsaw cultivator for its intended purpose.
