Experts who are engaged in laying metal communications, it is known that during the installation of pipelines there are not only direct structures, but also with turns. Of course, this problem can be avoided by using special adapters. But there are moments when they can not be used.

Electric pipe bender

The electric pipe bender considerably facilitates and accelerates work.

Sometimes it is necessary that the pipes do not run at a right angle. Then the use of additional devices is simply not possible. In this case, the task will help cope electric pipe bender with his own hands.

This installation has an important advantage: it gives no return either on the frame or on the hands, and its strength is equal to the hydraulic apparatus. In this regard, the electric pipe bender can be installed even on a soft surface and a wobbly floor.

Use of electric pipe bender

Work with pipe bender

Working with a pipe bender does not require the cost of human power, it works on hydraulic power.

Such pipe benders have good performance and are used for complex work. Unlike manual machines, an electrically operated device will significantly reduce the strength of a worker. Manual pipe benders most often use in house use and for small works. But electrical structures are more applicable for the production of bulk work.

Electric pipe bender does not require human strength, and its work is carried out due to hydraulic installation. Consequently, the device performs more complex work. Manual machines are equipped with one connector for a certain section of the pipe and in rare cases have several types, and electric pipe benders are considered universal, since for volumetric work it would not be reasonable to use such a unit for processing one type of pipe. Using such an installation, a large amount of work can be done without effort. However, on small objects, the pipe bender is used very rarely, since it leads to high costs.

The electric pipe bender does the manual work on the principle of a hand-held apparatus, only instead of a mechanical drive, a hydraulic rod is used, the shafts of which work not on a chain drive, but by means of an electric drive supplying current to rotating elements (shafts).

In addition, self-made electric pipe benders are used to bend several pipes at the same time, but for such work on the rollers several cuts are made.

Homemade pipe bender

The self-made pipe bender works in the same way as a hand-held device, only all the work is done with the help of an electric drive.

To do this, on a flat surface that will carry the function of the bed, set the feed shaft. From the end of the mount pulley, which will be installed belt drive rotor of the engine. From the second end is mounted an asterisk for the chain transmission, which will be the leading

Departing the distance from the first shaft, on the frame put the second shaft, which is installed on the end of the driven sprocket chain transmission.

It is important to note that not only standard glasses with a bearing can be used for mounting shafts, but also trapezoidal steel plates, which are welded to the side of the bed. In this case, the shafts are replaced with rope rollers.

Installation of deforming rollers in both the upper and lower parts of the device is permissible. The location of the third roller in the lower part is welcomed, but then it will be necessary to cut a hole in the frame to move the rod.

The roller shaft for tube deformation is located in the trapezoidal plates where the grooves are made, or in the U-shaped plug, and its legs are welded from the sides of the bed. The roller moves along the grooves, but on the one hand its movement is limited by the piston rod, and on the other by the deformable tube.

How to make a pipe bender at home?

The scheme with the size of a homemade pipe bender

The scheme with the size of a homemade pipe bender.

To make the benders with their own hands, for a start, the basis for the future device is selected. For the frame of the machine suitable rectangular tube. To ensure the greatest strength, a rectangular pipe is used with thick walls of about 3 mm. Having picked up the required material, a through hole is drilled at the edge of the pipe with an even cut, departing from the edge about 30 mm. The hole must correspond to the diameter of the axis, which will subsequently be installed there. The next step is to install a pulley and a handle with a movable pulley. The pipes will bend around the stationary pulley. Next, the profile is cut to the required size, which depends on the maximum bending angle. These sizes should be added to the stock of about 50 mm, and the excess profile is cut with a hacksaw.

Next is the installation of the lever and lock. These elements are harvested separately and only then installed on the frame. For mounting in advance, you need to prepare a stud, which has the form of a threaded rod. One side of the stud is equipped with a nut and locknut, and a pipe is mounted on the other side. It turns out the T-shaped lock.

For the handle and the pulley axis, two metal plates of about 5 mm are used, with a width equal to the cross section of the axis with an allowance of 5 mm on each side. Both plates are folded with each other and welded using jumpers, which use a steel tube. Jumpers are installed on the other side of the axis. At the opposite end, a hole is made in which the movable pulley will be mounted on the axle. Axis welding is not recommended, more practical to use cotter pins.

Pipe Radius Table

Table of pipe radii depending on the diameter and wall thickness.

The final stage is the assembly. To do this, use the vise, which is fixed basis. Next, set the axis to which the handle and the fixed pulley. It is tightened with a bolt. In the welded nut to fit the base pin retainer. During system start-up, the tube presses down the pulley. The lock is screwed. It is attached to the fixture by a clip, this position and sets the bend radius.

Using electric pipe benders, they achieve the highest quality when bending pipes and profiles of different diameters. Thanks to the machine, you can avoid creases and flattening during the bending process. It also helps reduce welding time. Finished products have high strength due to the reduction of the joints of elements.

Practical recommendations on the use of pipe bender

The model of pipe bender is completely dependent on the characteristics of the material to be bent (thickness, angle of bending).

In addition to the electric device, there are a manual machine and a hydraulic one.

The manual pipe bender found the application for a bend of pipes with a section up to 3 cm. Its advantages are that it has small dimensions and weight. This makes it easy to move it when working.

Hydraulic installations are more powerful and require electricity to operate. Such equipment is used for bending pipes of various diameters. Production speed is much higher than manual.

Hydraulic pipe benders are made both portable and stationary. Portable ones weigh about 60 kg and, due to their small size, are easy to transport. Stationary are used for pipes with a cross section of more than 10 cm.

In contrast to their analogs, electric pipe benders more accurately perform the bending angle: the maximum error can be up to 1 °. In this regard, this model is the most expensive. Also this pipe bender differs from simpler models in the principle of bending. The profile is given the required bend by winding on the block, which has the radius required as a result. This method of performing bending is capable of maintaining the original strength of the pipe.

So it is with the electric pipe bender. In addition to the high price, this device has one more disadvantage - large weight and dimensions, which means that its operation is possible only in stationary mode.
