Dry trees appeared at the dacha, and there is a chainsaw on the farm. The question immediately arises: how to cut a chainsaw correctly.

Cutting wood chainsaw

Cutting wood is easiest to carry a chainsaw, as it does not require much physical effort.

A chainsaw is a great tool and it can easily handle any barrel. Yes, that's just the tree grew big and tall. In order to solve the problem, how to correctly cut it with a chainsaw and not suffer at the same time, some nuances of this rather dangerous event should be considered.

Features felling

In order to understand how to cut the forest with a chainsaw, you should consider the factors influencing the process of felling. Two aspects of the problem should be noted here: the technical side and the security issue.

Tree felling scheme

Scheme felling tree of a tree.

The technical side of the question depends on a number of parameters. First of all, different tree species have different wood structure and different density. The denser the wood, the slower the cutting process.

The fundamental factor is the diameter (thickness) of the tree. Depending on this parameter, it is necessary to select the power of the chainsaw. Light saws (tire length up to 35 cm) are used to cut trees with a diameter of no more than 30 cm. Medium saws (tire length is 35-65 cm) can be used when you need to cut a specimen with a diameter of up to 60 cm. Finally, if you need to cut trees with a chainsaw size, you should use a heavy saw (tire length over 65 cm). In addition, the cutting technology itself depends on the thickness of the trunk. Copies with a diameter of up to 20 cm can be felled with one cut, and trees of larger diameter require two or more different cuts.

The height of the tree in addition to safety issues affects the technology of cutting, as it determines the weight. It may be necessary to make several cuts at different heights from the ground. The type of crown and the shape of the trunk largely determine the direction of the fall by changing the center of gravity. All this affects the choice of location and direction of the cuts. Finally, the technology of cutting depends on whether you need to cut the trunk under the root or saw off its part, that is, at what height the sawing is performed.

Safety when felling

The fall of a tree with a gash

The fall of the tree when the file should be carefully calculated so that the execution of the work does not lead to injuries.

The question of how to properly cut trees with a chainsaw cannot be solved without ensuring the safety of workers. First of all, throwing a chainsaw alone is strictly prohibited. There should always be a partner. Due to the flammability of sawdust and gasoline in the tool, the use of open fire and smoking are prohibited. Face and body should be protected from slivers and sawdust.

It is necessary to take measures so that the felled tree does not fall on the worker, other people or electric lines. You can not work with a strong wind. The direction of the fall of the trunk must be carefully calculated and cleaned of obstacles (branches of other trees, etc.).

In order to bring down, the chainsaw must be held with both hands. Do not work with the edge of the saw because of the risk of kickback. The risk of kickback must be taken into account during the entire sawing process. When sawing a tree or cutting branches of a chainsaw, it should be located no higher than shoulder level.

Preparatory activities

Chainsaw job

When operating a chainsaw, hands should be protected with gloves.

To cut a tree by a chainsaw correctly and safely is possible only after certain preparatory work has been carried out. First of all, it is necessary to clear a place for work, as well as a way of possible retreat from a falling tree. So, the free space on the working side should be: with a trunk diameter up to 20 cm - not less than 80 cm; with a diameter of up to 30 cm - not less than 1.2 m; with a diameter of 50 cm - not less than 2 m. The working area is determined after calculating the direction of fall.

The preparation of the tree itself consists in cutting from the trunk of the branches and knots, which are located below the head of the worker. Clears the fall direction.

Before starting work, determine the readiness of the chainsaw. The condition of the cutting elements and the chain tension are evaluated. Checks gasoline and oil level.

Roll of small trees

Trees with a diameter of up to 20 cm are classified as small and can fall with one saw. The technology of cutting such specimens is as follows. From the side of the slope of the trunk is a cross-cut by a chainsaw. The length of the cut is about half the thickness of the trunk. Then the trunk is trimmed on the other side at the same level, until the tree moves. A small effort is applied, and the tree collapses in the right direction. Such cuts are carried out first at the shoulder level of the person. Then, with one kerf, the rest of the trunk is cut off at the level of the root (soil).

After cutting the trunk, you should immediately cut branches on it. Their cutting begins with distant branches. Small branches and knots are removed with one movement of the saw. Thicker branches are first sawn from the upper side, and finally cut off from the bottom. This should be done to prevent the saw chain from shimming.

The direction of the saw when felling the tree

The direction of work saw when felling the tree.

The question of how to cut a large-diameter tree correctly is solved by several characteristic cuts. First, at a convenient height for work, a line is cut out of the tree. Then, to this virtual line from above, the cut is made at an angle of 45ยบ. This cut is done on the side of the inclination of the trunk, that is, on the side of the fall of the tree after sawing. At the level of the intended sawing line, horizontal cutting is made (from the same side as the inclined cutting) to the connection with the inclined cutting within the shaft. The depth of the cut should be a quarter of the diameter of the trunk at the cutting site. The distance between the horizontal kerf and the start of the inclined kerf along the surface of the trunk in the longitudinal direction is 20-40 cm. When sawing, you should strive to observe the recommended angles and direction of sawing. After removing the cut piece of the trunk, the cut will look like a log with an ax.

The next horizontal kerf is made from the opposite side of the tree at a height 2-3 cm higher than the height to the first horizontal kerf. The cut is done so that its depth does not reach about 10% of the cut already made on the other side. At the end of sawing there may be a crack or a slight movement of the tree. In this case, you must quickly remove the chainsaw from the cut. A wedge or special blade for the felling is inserted into this cut. By pressing with your hands or with a wedge, the felling is provided.

In case it is necessary to cut a trunk with a diameter up to 50 cm, it is necessary to use additional kerf.

Before making the second horizontal cut, one more inclined propyl is made, then they are joined. This technology eliminates the risk of sticking the cutting element chainsaw.

Then the cutting of branches and twigs is done. The trunk is sawn into pieces. Sawing the trunk is recommended, raising it above the ground in a horizontal position. To do this, you can use goats.

To ensure the correct felling of trees you can follow additional recommendations. You should not make significant efforts on the chainsaw: during normal chain sharpening, the cutting speed is almost independent of the force. The upper large branches can not be cut from the bottom: the bottom is done only sawn no more than half the diameter of the branch to avoid jamming of the saw. When sawing it is not recommended that the direction of movement of the saw chain falls on the body of the worker. It should always be a little apart.

Necessary tool

When felling trees, the following tool is needed:

  • chainsaw;
  • ax;
  • hacksaw;
  • wrench;
  • screwdriver;
  • spade blade;
  • metal or plastic felling wedge;
  • roulette;
  • pliers.

The question of how to cut a chainsaw tree correctly, must be addressed both from the technical side and from the side of safety. Sometimes, it is safety that determines the quality of work, because technically felling of trees is quite simple.
