The simplest device is the guide bar. You can easily get an even straight cut. For the manufacture you will need a straight straight bar of the required length. He, with the help of screws (if it is permissible) or clamps, is attached to the material being processed. Fastening should be carried out at such a distance from the required cutting line so that the position of the saw blade coincides with the markings with the emphasis placed on the bar by the side sole of the circular saw. For a single cut, this method is suitable, however, if you repeat the same type of operations, the marking procedure and the installation of the bar will have to be repeated every time.

The guide bar can be improved by fastening it on a sheet of durable plywood with a thickness of 6-8 mm. One edge of the sheet when working will be combined with the cut line. At a distance equal to the distance between the saw blade and the edge of the sole of the circular saw (working distance), a guide bar is attached to the plywood with self-tapping screws. During the work, it will only be necessary to align the working edge of the plywood sheet with the cutting line and fix the opposite edge with clamps.

  1. Blank template. If necessary, the manufacture of similar parts, you can use one of them as a template guide. To do this, cut the workpiece of the required length and at one end is fixed thrust rail. The width of the rail should coincide with the working distance. When working with this device, the thrust rail must fit snugly to the end of the workpiece. So you can get a large number of parts of exactly the same length without spending time on the marking of the cutting line.
  2. Cutting angle piece. For permanent use, you can make a cutting square. It consists of two massive wooden or plywood slats, fastened with self-tapping screws in the shape of the letter “T”. The length of the protruding ends of the crossbar of the letter “T” is aligned to match the working distance of the circular saw. Installing the aligned end of the crossbar in front of the marking line will provide an accurate perpendicular cut.
  3. Edge stop. The standard configuration of the circular saw includes an angular (edge) stop. It allows you to cut parallel to the edge of the material being processed. Using a self-made edge stop, a cleaner and more accurate cut can be achieved due to an extended and longer base.

For the manufacture of the edge stop, a thrust rail and a base for a circular saw are cut out of 15 mm thick plywood. At the base and thrust rail using manual milling cutter keyways are selected. The keys themselves are made of hardwood scraps or from the same plywood and fastened to the grooves of the thrust rail. To strengthen the stop at an angle of 90 ° to the stop rail, another rail of sufficient width is fixed, which will rest on the workpiece. Adjusting the distance of the cut from the edge of the workpiece is carried out by moving the stop rail along the guides, followed by fixing with the help of a locking screw.

To install the screw in the base saw through the groove. To increase the cutting accuracy and increase the safety of work, it is recommended to use two screws. A hole is made in the base plate for the saw blade and a mounting system for the circular saw is installed. The design of the mounting system can be very diverse and will depend on the specific brand of saw. The common point for all options should be a reliable fixation of the circular and the possibility of its dismantling from the fixture after work is completed. For the convenience of setting the required width of the cut-off material, the measuring tape is fixed on the front surface of the base of the fixture.

For cutting a large number of identical bars, it makes sense to make a device called a saddle. It consists of three parts connected in the form of the letter “P” (back and two sides). The width of the back should correspond to the width of the sawn timber. The width of the sidewalls is chosen so that they can provide sufficient support for the edge of the sole of the circular saw until the saw blade enters the workpiece material. Also in the sidewalls it is necessary to provide grooves or holes for secure attachment of the fixture on the treated timber using clamps.

Work with this device is as follows:

  • marked cut line;
  • at a distance equal to the working distance from the cutting line, the device is exposed and fixed;
  • the cut of the beam is carried out by moving the circular along the side surface of the device.

The advantage of this device is the absence of the need to reconfigure when cutting a bar, which exceeds the thickness of the blade reach. For this, two passes of the saw are made from opposite sides.

The design of the device for working with bars can be slightly improved by analogy with the modernized guide bar. To do this, on one or both sides at a distance equal to the worker, bars are mounted that serve as a stop for the circular sole. Thus, the edge of the side part will coincide with the required cutting line.

End fixtures

Cutting on the end or edge surfaces of the material is a separate and rather difficult task. To perform a cut on these surfaces, it is necessary to create additional surfaces for a stable support of the circular saw.

In this case, the device will be two wide slats connected to each other at an angle of 90 ° using self-tapping screws. The connection is further enhanced by the corners. The slats must have grooves for movement of the saw blade. To perform a cut, you need to make two such devices. The work process is as follows:

  • devices are installed so that the marking line on the material coincides with the groove for movement of the saw blade;
  • alignment of the material edge and the support surface of the devices is performed;
  • clamps fixing devices for stable and safe operation are installed.

The hand-held circular saw can be turned into a cutting circular saw if there is a constructive opportunity. To do this, the saw is turned over and mounted on the table surface with the help of fastening systems so that the saw disk passes through the table top.

Fastening methods, material and dimensions of the tabletop, each master, who has undertaken such an upgrade, selects based on the tasks before him and the available possibilities. In general terms, all the nodes of such a device must meet the requirements of strength and reliability. The table top should be flat and level, have dimensions sufficient for safe processing of parts. A mandatory requirement is easy access to the switch. It is unacceptable to use a clamp for fixing clamps to the surface of the workbench or clamp in a metal bench vice instead of a frame saw.

Improper use of the circular saw is a source of increased traumatic risk. Moreover, injuries that can be obtained when working with this tool are sometimes very, very serious.
