It can go for the manufacture of greenhouses, greenhouses, fences, gates and a variety of canopies and canopies. Given the above list of objects of use, many of them have curvilinear shapes, which can be easily performed by a homemade pipe bender for a profile pipe. The easiest option is a pipe bender, made using a profile pipe, planks and plywood.
The simplest pipe bender can be made of boards or plywood. It will be a pattern that accurately reproduces the required bending radius. The thickness of the material is chosen slightly more than the cross section of the bent pipe. On the surface of the template should be fixed several strips, preventing a possible breakdown during bending.
Before starting work, the template is rigidly fixed on a solid, reliable base surface. A stop is fixed on the side at the maximum possible close distance (so that later a profile can be inserted between them). A profile tube is inserted between the template and the support and smoothly, without unnecessary sharp shocks, bends along the surface of the template.
The disadvantages of this design homemade devices are:
- uniqueness - one pattern can be used to obtain a well-defined bend;
- pipe bending with a cross section of more than 20x20mm is very difficult.
If the manual winch is fixed on the supporting surface, then with its help it is possible to bend pipes with a large cross section.
So that during the bending process there is no deformation or rupture of the walls, it is possible to fill the sand tightly inside the profile and block the ends with wooden wedges. The absence of stretching on the outer part of the pipe bending and flattening from the inner side is considered to be a sign of a qualitatively performed bending process.Back to table of contents
Rolling Bender Design

A more versatile and convenient in work is a rolling type pipe bender. The basis of the design consists of three rollers (two rolling and one clamping), located in the shape of a triangle relative to each other. A bendable profile is rolled between them. The smaller the distance between the pressure roller and the conditional horizontal passing through the centers of the rolling rollers, and the smaller the distance between them, the smaller the bend radius will be at the output.
For the manufacture of such devices need the skills of metalworking. To facilitate the work, it is recommended to draw at least a general approximate drawing of the device, on which the dimensions of the rollers and their relative position can be calculated. In order to end up with a universal fixture, you can provide elongated grooves within which the axes of the rollers can move.
Sheets of duralumin, steel or thick (at least 12 mm) plywood can be used as a material. If necessary, from the outside, stiffening ribs can later be added to them.
The simplest version of the manufacture of the case will be the option in which the drawing, printed on a natural scale, is glued to the selected material. After that, it remains only to cut the workpieces along the contour with a jigsaw equipped with a saw on wood in case of using plywood or a saw on metal when using thin-sheet steel or duralumin.
The grooves are formed as follows:

- using an electric drill with a fixed drill of the appropriate diameter, holes are drilled in opposite ends of the groove;
- the material between the holes along the lines of the drawing is cut with a jigsaw.
If the thickness of the material and the power of the tool allow, then it is more rational to simultaneously cut the two sides of the case, first reliably holding the sheets together with clamps.
As rollers, you can use standard purchased products of the required diameter or make them on a lathe. The material can be diverse - steel, duralumin, plywood or hard plastic, as long as it provides the necessary strength. In the center of the rollers it is necessary to make a flat groove that coincides or slightly exceeds the cross-section of the pipe. A semicircular groove, which is present in most purchased products, can contribute to the occurrence of a crumpling on the pipe, so it is better to grind off to a flat profile if possible.
Rollers for better sliding should be equipped with bearings. A metal threaded rod passed through selected elongated grooves would be ideal as an axis. To reduce the likelihood of jamming on the axle, you can install washers.Back to table of contents
Adjustment and adjustment of the device

After assembling the main unit, it is mounted perpendicular to the base by welding or corners. A plate with a nut fixed on it is mounted in the upper part of the housing above the pressure roller.
To adjust the tension of the pressure roller, a part is made in profile resembling the letter “P”. Three holes are drilled in this part. Two at the base are used to attach the clamping element to the axis. The hole in the horizontal bar must be coaxial with the previously fixed nut. A tensioning bolt is installed in it, which, when wrapped in a nut, adjusts the degree of clamping of the upper roller and thereby determines the degree of bending of the profile pipe.
To ensure that the clamping bolt can be used, it is possible to fix any kind of lamb or cross grip.
Rolling the profile pipe through the pipe bender can be done manually or by rotating the handle attached to one of the rollers.
The attachment point of the handle will determine the method of mounting the rollers and the effort spent on rolling the pipe.
When attaching the handle to the axis of the upper clamping element, it must be fixed rigidly on its axis. Rollers in this case should rotate freely.
If the handle is fixed on one of the rolling rollers, everything should be the other way around. To reduce the effort to turn the handle, the axles can be equipped with asterisks and a chain drive, which allows to evenly distribute the forces from the handle to both rolling axles. As a result, the pipe bends more gently and smoothly.
The pipe bender for a profile pipe will not be inferior to the factory one in terms of its characteristics, and sometimes it can be difficult to distinguish them with its corresponding color.
