Any tool requires timely maintenance. And the puncher needs it first. Its operation is accompanied by a large number of reciprocating movements and rotations. The amount of dust emitted from the processed object has a very high concentration. In such working conditions, careful maintenance of the tool and timely replacement of the lubricant are necessary.

Many users believe that if it is present, it means you can work with it for an unlimited amount of time. This confusion exists among users due to the low level of knowledge of physical laws. Consider the mechanism of lubrication a little deeper.

What is a lubricant and why is it needed?

It is recommended to change the grease in the perforator every six months.

Lubricant is a viscous mass, which is designed to minimize the coefficient of friction between the parts. Reduce, not eliminate completely. This means that the friction between the parts is almost always present, and with it some of the small particles are separated from the parts and get directly into the oil. Over time, this lubricant enriched with metal dust ceases to perform its basic function. At first, the viscosity of the lubricant simply changes, and a little later it becomes the cause of rapid wear of parts. Grease viscosity is the main parameter that you need to pay attention to when buying it. The manufacturer of the perforator must indicate in the accompanying technical documentation all the parameters of the perforator and the lubricating fluid that must be used. Particular attention should be paid to the frequency of maintenance, which indicates how long it is necessary to change the lubricating oil.

For a punch with a certificate of quality, you need to use only brand-name lubricants, otherwise in the event of a device failure, you will lose the right to warranty service. After the warranty period has expired, it is also advisable to use the substance recommended by the manufacturer, but at this point, as a rule, the user uses cheaper domestic counterparts. Solid oil or lithol will not harm your instrument at all. But do not forget that litol “works” for a much shorter period of time, therefore, it should be replaced more often.

Demanding such lubrication and temperature conditions of use. But this does not mean that the use of lithol is prohibited. There are facts when using a domestic lubricating fluid only increased the force of perforator impact and decreased the noise background produced by it. This is especially true perforator Chinese assembly. Users of Chinese products and do not rely on warranty service, so they act on their own from the very beginning of using a puncher (or a drill). Since the punch of each manufacturer has its fundamental design features, there can be no general lubrication instruction. The main thing that you had on hand:

  • instructions for the care of the product;
  • rags;
  • brand lubricant or its equivalent.

And then, you guessed it, we act strictly according to the instructions. Do not forget that the punch should be as dust free as possible. And make sure that the level of lubrication does not exceed the reference mark. As a rule, the perforator has a special capacity for lubricating oil, therefore it is not difficult to complete the whole procedure.

It is not recommended to lubricate the perforator immediately after work, as heated parts lose their physical properties when cold lubricant gets on them. The shaft of the drill is also desirable to grease with grease or lithol. If the perforator is equipped with an open cartridge, it makes sense to lubricate the gland. It must first be disassembled and wiped thoroughly. Applied grease will prolong the life of the cartridge and will resist dust from entering the punch.

Is it worth it to disassemble the gearbox yourself?

Special attention is required of the punch reducer. Lubricate the gearbox parts is not so difficult, but before the expiration of the warranty period, you should not engage in lubrication yourself. You definitely can make out the gearbox, but not everyone can assemble it. With the problem of gearbox lubrication, it is better to contact specialized workshops or service center company. This work is very delicate, so it is better to entrust it to real experts. It is possible that the nearest such center is far away from you, so you decide to lubricate the gearbox at home.

Then it should be recalled that the replacement of lubricant should be carried out, after removing the gearbox. Both before and after disassembly, thoroughly clean the punch from dust. Better if you blow through all the details. The compressor will help you quickly remove dust. Any construction dryer or even a regular brush will do. The main thing is that the dust does not get inside the gearbox housing.

When disassembling, pay attention to all the details. Some of them have no lubrication at all. This does not mean that the lubricant is developed on them. Just a part of the gearbox parts is not subject to lubrication. You also do not need to smear them. When disassembling, we try to remember as much as possible the position of the parts and the order of their extraction. So, you will not get "extra" parts during assembly. All parts of the gearbox must be thoroughly rinsed with kerosene (or a spindle) and wiped dry with a cloth. It is also necessary to flush the gearbox housing from the inside. No need to hurry with the assembly: let the body dry.

Causes of punch overheating

And now we make lubrication of parts and assemble the gearbox in the reverse order. We remind you that an excessive amount of lubricant may also affect the quality of work: the heating of the gearbox may increase.

If the perforator began to heat up more than usual, this does not mean that there is a problem with lubrication. Most likely, you used the slotting mode for too long, so the lubricant simply did not reach all the details of the punch in the required quantity.

The second reason may be blockage of the cooling holes in the engine. There is only one solution: to clean the punch from dust and transfer it temporarily to a different mode of operation. If the puncher will work for 15-20 minutes like a normal drill, the body temperature will significantly decrease. The gearbox must have the same temperature in any mode of use of the perforator.

Subtleties of service of a drill with perforator function

It is much more difficult to maintain the drill, which is also positioned as a punch. Such a hybrid of two tools has several disadvantages compared to conventional perforators. First, they do not have special containers for filling grease. Secondly, it is much more difficult to maintain the cartridge mechanism. Only the tip of the drill needs constant lubrication. The amount of lubricant is minimal: you just need to wipe the auger from the dust and apply a small grease ball (the size of a match head) to the tip.

The drill will be very easy to move and will serve you for years. The same requirements apply to the maintenance of a conventional drill. Excess grease on the storm will not harm the mechanism, but it will definitely splash and may cause cosmetic damage to the repair of the apartment. But if the lubricant is in the reducer in an excess amount, then it will simply flow.

Excessive lubricant pressure is sure to force out one of the seals, and the heated lubricant will protrude onto the gearbox housing.

And this is the same spray and the same problems with the repair. Yes, and the gearbox will be damaged.

A few words need to be said about professional perforators. In the personal use of the home master of such a tool usually does not happen. Here, first of all, cost plays a role, therefore, they are acquired much less frequently. Meanwhile, this punch is the most unpretentious and easy to maintain. With lubrication of such a tool there are no problems, since the design of the mechanism is extremely simple. Gearbox also has no features that complicate its maintenance. It's simple: open the drain valve, release the used lubricant into the tank, rinse the reservoir for lubricating the perforator, close the drain hole and fill in the new lubricant to the required mark. The gearbox of such a punch is serviced in the same way as described earlier.
