Welding

A tool such as a welding machine is used for welding metal. In order to use it, it is necessary to strictly follow the instructions, and then the welding process will take place with maximum success and in safe conditions.

Why is a semi-automatic welding machine popular?

Welding machines are of different types, but semiautomatic is very popular. To work with such a device is completely easy, the working efficiency is very high. This is largely due to the fact that the weight of the unit is relatively small. It is much more efficient to weld metal with such an apparatus, since the effect is about 2 times higher than the usual one. And it should be noted that the welding semi-automatic is able to work even when the voltage mode is lowered. This circumstance is especially important for rural areas. It is because of this circumstance that there is a great opportunity to make a high-quality seam and achieve a stable arc. This circumstance is of great importance for a beginner.

The principle of joining pipes by welding

In order to work effectively with a welding machine, it is imperative that you follow the safety instructions. When such work is carried out, it is imperative to wear a protective mask of the welder or shield. It is necessary to do this, since in the course of the work ultraviolet radiation arises, which can easily damage the eyes. Also during such work it is necessary to wear protective clothing. Thus it is possible not to get burns that may occur as a result of droplets of molten metal, it is necessary to wear canvas gloves. We must not forget that cutting metal is a matter of responsibility and by no means easy.

It should be noted that if you plan to cut the metal with conventional welding machines, then this is not an easy thing, since they do not differ in special strength (if we compare them with professional devices). In order for the welding power to be greater, it is highly recommended to use electrodes with a diameter of 2.5 mm for welding.

Electrode layout

The layout of the electrode.

It is strongly recommended not to use thicker electrodes for work, as working with them is associated with many difficulties (they do not flare up well, and it happens that they do not flare up at all). In this regard, it is necessary to carefully ensure that the electrodes are not damp, and electrodes with chipped plaster are not allowed.

Before you start welding metal, you need to "ignite" the electrode. To do this, they need to spend a few centimeters on a flat metal surface, and you need to be prepared for the fact that such a process will be accompanied by metal splashes and bright flashes. And only after that you can begin direct welding of the metal.

Welding a welding machine yourself is not as difficult as it may seem at first glance, at least if it is a semi-automatic. It should be remembered that most of the metals are welded with a current of direct polarity, that is, a “plus” must be connected to the part to be welded.

Types of welds

Types of welded joints.

  1. It must be remembered that everything must be done with the utmost care. If you plan to weld metal, whose thickness is 1-3 mm, and the electrode thickness is 1-1.5 mm, the current should be from 20 to 60 A. If the metal thickness reaches 5 mm, and the electrode diameter is up to 3 mm, then the current increases up to about 100 A.
  2. If there is a need to weld 2 pipes that are located horizontally, you need to begin to weld the seam from the lowest point (this is called the ceiling joint). That is, when a metal is welded by a semiautomatic machine, then you need to go from the bottom up, and not in any way. Then you should boil the second half of the seams in the same way.
  3. When work is carried out, it is necessary to pay close attention to the quality of the seams, so that the metal welded by the semiautomatic machine should be properly melted. It should be borne in mind that if the metal is burned, it means that the welding current is too large. Thus, it must be reduced. However, too little current is also not suitable, as this will be an obstacle in order to provide the necessary penetration of the joint.

The semiautomatic welding machine is good at work in that it is possible to smoothly change the current, thanks to which there is an excellent opportunity to achieve the most optimal welding parameters.

It is also necessary to take into account the fact that for high-quality welding you need to use only the highest quality equipment. This is one of the conditions that the quality of work will be high. Otherwise, you should not count on a positive result. And there is no need to invite specialists for welding. Of course, in most cases it is not necessary to doubt the quality of their work, but the cost of their services is far from the smallest.
