Almost every man had the need to solder metal at home. The process itself is simple. The only obstacle is that the equipment for this process is not always available to the home master. There is a gas cylinder, but there is no special burner for this. Let's try to do without autogen and make a simple torch for soldering. Immediately it should be noted that it will not give the same powerful stream of flame as its analogue of industrial production. This means that you will not be able to weld heavy structures. But you can easily solder simple products or repair medium-sized metal structures.

  • brass tube;
  • brass blanks for the manufacture of the divider and nozzle;
  • plates of any heat-resistant material (wooden bars can be used);

  • connecting hoses.

First, a handle must be attached to the brass tube. Usually either a handle from an old soldering iron is used for this, or a longitudinal hole is drilled in an ordinary wooden bar with a diameter corresponding to the diameter of the brass tube itself. Next, the handle is attached to the tube using epoxy resin or silicone. She is given a shape convenient for you.

Especially carefully it is necessary to approach production of a nozzle. It is desirable that the nozzle hole was about 0.1 mm. It is impossible to drill such a hole at home, therefore a wider opening is made, and its edges are stained to the required size. This work is very accurate, so it will take a lot of time from you. For the reliability of all actions, the workpiece is fixed in a vice and struck with a hammer vertically with a small "delay" to the center.

The whole procedure is performed in a circle to avoid deviations of the direction of gas supply in the future. After embossing, the nozzle head is processed with fine sandpaper. On the reverse side of the nozzle, a thread is drawn in to connect with the feed pipe. Often solder is used to connect the nozzle and tube. Note that this is not the best way to connect: if necessary, it will be very difficult to repair or replace the nozzle.

In general, the described version of the manufacture of the burner can be considered as already completed: your unit will work, it is enough just to put everything together, open the gas cylinder valve and ignite the gas. But then some inconvenience will go further, since it will be possible to regulate the gas flow only with a gas cylinder valve, and you will not achieve maximum power of the flame. The burner needs additional equipping with a crane and a divider. The crane can be mounted both on the burner itself and on the feed pipe. It is more convenient when it is in close proximity to the handle (2-4 cm above). The crane can be used from the burner of the old autogen or another equivalent. It is better to fix it permanently on the tube to the threaded connection, sealing it with a FUM tape.

The divider is made of brass. The best option is a cylindrical billet with a hole for the supply tube and holes of smaller diameter parallel to it. Such a workpiece is mounted on the tube so that its edges protrude 2-3 mm forward from the edge of the nozzle. Such a small device will perform two functions: protect the flame from side wind and provide the flow of oxygen necessary to maintain a steady flame.

How to simplify the divider?

For arranging the divider, it is not necessary to manufacture such a complex structure. A brass tube, the diameter of which is slightly larger than the diameter of the supply tube, is also suitable. This tip must be mounted on the tube parallel to it. The air flow will be ensured by the fact that the gas leaving the nozzle will create a zone of reduced pressure, respectively, the air flow will independently flow into this area.

The principle of operation will be the same as that of a regular tourist primus. The difference between homemade and primus stoves is much smaller and that gas is used as a fuel, not gasoline. And also the gas burner does not require the creation of excessive pressure inside the tank with gas, since it is already present.

The self-made burner is completely unpretentious to the composition of the gas: it works on both pure propane and propane-butane mixture. The difference will be felt only in the rate of heating of the material during the soldering period. But even this moment can be leveled by adjusting the gas supply.

Jet or needle?

Craftsmen suggest instead of making a special jet to use a medical needle of the required diameter. We agree that it will be much easier to do this. It is enough to cut the needle to the length you need. Replacing such a jet for your self-made burner will be very easy to produce. And this will have to be done very often, since the soldering can last for a long time, and the needle tip will melt pretty quickly. With a brass jet, this can also happen, for this you need a couple of hours of constant burner operation.

The self-made burner is easy to manufacture and reliable in operation, so it makes sense to start its manufacture.

But it is necessary to work with such a product in compliance with all safety measures that are prescribed to the gas welder in the workplace. Before starting work, it is necessary to monitor the density of all compounds to detect gas leaks. At the end of the work, it is first recommended to turn off the gas cylinder valve, and when the flame goes out arbitrarily, it is possible to close the valve on the burner itself. A self-made burner can operate continuously for no more than 30 minutes. Regularly monitor the temperature of the supply tube and the condition of the nozzle. At observance of all rules, the torch can serve very long. As a rule, homemade products are of good quality (done for yourself!) And reliability.
