The thickness of the required material and the speed with which it can be cut with it will depend on the power of the chosen tool. If the jigsaw work will consist only in processing one material - plywood, then about 300 W of power will be enough. If the power tool is purchased as a multi-purpose, that is, to work with any materials inside the house, then it is desirable to select its power in the range from 600 to 700 watts. The second factor is the weight of the battery (for mobile devices).   • for wood based materials;
  • for wood and plastics;
  • for metal, cement, stone and ceramics;
  • for rubber, cardboard and leather;
  • for multilayer materials.

Accordingly, it would be best if the chosen jigsaw could work, if not with all, then with most types of files. Therefore, when choosing such a tool, it should be clarified with the seller with which types of files the particular model works.

Without being constrained in choosing only one, only a certain type of sawing, the operator of such a jigsaw can simply solve all the problems of the quality and speed of the necessary cuts, providing the operation with the necessary saw blades for almost any material. However, it should be noted that to obtain a high-quality cut it is not enough to have the file you need for this material. It is also necessary to know how to do this correctly.

When working with an electric jigsaw, dust and sawdust formed in the process of saw blade movement fall asleep the applied line along which the cutting is carried out. This is especially critical for materials whose surface should not have noticeable damage, such as wood-covered veneer. In addition, the “pendulum” mode is recommended to be included mainly when cutting thick wooden surfaces, and the thicker the workpiece and the harder its wood, the greater the pendulum deflection of the jig saw should be. Under this recommendation, the third, higher position of the instrument “pendulum” regulator is set to cut the toughest and thickest wooden parts or surfaces. On thin blanks, this mode is ineffective.

The correct practical experience and technical capabilities of the selected tool (first of all, its ability to work with various types of saw blades) will help you to choose the right saw blade or the mode of operation of the jigsaw and to make a proper cut. Moreover, the tool holder, clamping the file, should fix it without backlash and skew, stably in the transverse direction, towards the saw.

In normal operation with an electric jigsaw, its sole is perpendicular to the saw blade. However, there may be different situations in which a kerf is required at a certain angle to the plane of the surface to be treated. Therefore, manufacturers of electric jigsaws have developed and produced models in which the sole can be tilted to the saw blade at an angle from 0 to 45 °. But this function may never be needed at home, and without ways to control the compliance of the cutting line to the applied marking it is quite difficult to work. As a result, you should choose an electric jigsaw model, which has a special removable plastic nozzle, which, when installed at the front of the tool's sole, helps to track the accuracy of the cutting line by combining the nozzle markers with the marking applied to the surface to be machined.

Some models of jigsaw electric saws are equipped with a removable side rail, which is also designed for similar purposes, but is not convenient enough. This guide is applicable only in cases where there is a cut around the line (not further than 170 mm) of a flat side face of the treated surface, along which the set guide rigidly guides the jigsaw, making the cut. In this case, it is necessary to solve the problem of the method of fixing the surface on which the jigsaw works, since its operator has both hands occupied: one controls the guide on the leading edge, and the other controls the tool.

Another feature on which, ceteris paribus, one of the selectable models can be preferred, jigsaw handle. It should be borne in mind that the P or D-shaped handles, which are more convenient to control such a tool with one hand, than the mushroom-shaped handles.
