How to assemble a strong milling cutter on a walk-behind

The motor-block is the equipment demanded in agriculture. How to assemble the cutter on the walker and prepare the soil for sowing on your own personal plot?

Motoblock in work

The motor-block is the equipment which is intended for performance of various agricultural works.

You must first familiarize yourself with the design of the motoblock in order to perform its assembly in the shortest possible time. Most often, saber knives and crow's feet are used for assembly. They are convenient, allow you to perform a significant part of the work without replacing the cutter. As a result, reduced time and maintenance costs.

Before you start assembling the cutter, you need to understand what is a motor-cultivator and what is included in it. The upper part of the frame is usually welded. Here is installed fuel tank, engine. Mounted on brackets. The engine itself, or the power unit, is equipped with a clutch and gearbox. Its power may be different, it all depends on the type and purpose of the motor-cultivator.

The cutters are a scheme of 2 blocks, each containing 12 separate cutters. For each unit, 3 separate units with 4 knives are used, which are mounted at an angle of 90 °. The position of the nodes has an offset of 30 °. For the manufacture of one knife used steel sheet, whose thickness is equal to 5 mm. The rack is made of metal angle 63 * 40 mm. Knives are attached to the rack, their second end is welded to the flange to combine 4 knives into one design. The entire mill is connected with bolts, washers, flanges. The design is reliable, it can withstand significant loads. If you plan to constantly use this equipment, then you need to prefer only the factory options.

Factory cutters with saber knives

Those who begin to use motorblocks, ask the question: which knives to take the best? Types of motor cultivators can be divided into 2 large groups:

Saber cutters

Saber milling cutters are most suitable for all types of work.

  • knives called crow's feet;
  • cutter type saber.

The saber shape of the cutters is the most popular, such schemes are called standard. They are effective, the effectiveness of the use of this type has been proven for decades. Often, the motor cultivators with which the cutters come with are exactly saber-shaped. It is most suitable for any type of work. The advantages that saber milling cutters have are obvious. The shape of knives is optimal. They are suitable for various types of work. For the manufacture of knives used only high-carbon stainless steel, whose strength is high.

Saber cutters have a collapsible design, which makes their installation and maintenance simple and effective. The steel from which the knives are made is not at all susceptible to welding. In order to improve the mechanical properties of the product, the so-called thermal hardening is used during production. Steel for strength is treated with high-frequency currents.

Crows feet

Not so long ago, cutters began to be used for motoblocks, which were called “crow's feet”. They have proven themselves to be used most often for the treatment of hard and complex soils. Such mills are used when cultivation needs to be carried out in difficult conditions, on stony soils. The design of the "crows feet" is made solid, which provides the highest strength equipment. Cutters are available in standard sizes:

  • the width of the knives is 41 cm;
  • the length of the knives is 38 cm;
  • construction height - 38 cm;
  • the mass of a mill is equal to 16 kg;
  • The permissible working speed of a motor-cultivator with such knives is 2-5 km / h.

What are the advantages of the “goose feet” cutter? Can I install it myself? It is convenient for tillage, weed control. Other models will not be able to cope with the work better. For stony and hard soils, the crow's feet milling cutter is simply indispensable. Of the benefits it should be noted that the steel cutters in this case can be welded. If necessary, you can perform repairs at home, and not to buy new knives, as it is expensive.

The cutter of this type has its drawbacks. The main disadvantage is that ordinary carbon steel is used for manufacturing. The strength of the structure itself is at a high level, but here the material is slightly inferior to other varieties. Such a mill should be regularly inspected when working on clay soils, during the cultivation of virgin soil.. Knives cutters can be bent or simply broken. However, the repair is not too complicated, a welding machine is usually used for a broken knife, after which the fracture point is carefully polished.

When assembling the scheme, it is necessary to work together, since the weight of the structure is significant. It is important not to confuse the direction of installation of knives on the axis. When assembling sharpening should look in the direction of the treated soil. To strengthen the mill, use a stopper, it is placed on the output axis.

In photo 1, the structure and features of the milling cutter are clearly visible. The scheme is simple, but, before you start using the equipment, you should carefully read it.

The design of the cutter includes such elements as:

  • the rotor axis, which may have a different length (it can be single or divided into 2 parts, i.e. the cutter will be assembled from 2 parts);
  • short rotary axle;
  • the so-called finger, equipped with a lock;
  • right and left knives;
  • Nuts, bolts, washers, which are necessary for fasteners of the whole structure.

The direction of rotation is counterclockwise. Soil cutters of any type are self-sharpening tools, there is no need to apply additional sharpening. Use sharpening unnecessarily should not be, it can spoil the design.

During the installation of the cutter can be difficult, this work is not recommended to be done alone.

Special X-shaped trestles made of wood, whose height is about 50 cm, are used for assembly. This allows you to quickly and easily put the wheels on the structure.

Before assembling, the tiller should be carefully supported on the coulter, after which it should be tilted about 45 °. Wooden trestles are usually boards that are knocked together in the middle part in the X-shaped position and are substituted for the existing steering wheel grip. After that, the wheel of the motoblock is removed, cutters of the selected size are put.

Today, the cutters for the motoblock can be easily purchased at any specialty store, their cost is not too high. You can assemble knives for the motoblock with your own hands, but experts do not advise doing this without experience, as they can be dangerous to use. Putting the mill is not difficult, but the best thing to do this work together.
