Homemade quality milling table

All those who have long been engaged in the manufacture of wooden parts and beginner masters of carpentry, know how important a convenient workshop is to the work performed. One of its central elements is a milling table, machine or workbench. Home-made milling table, even if there is no room for a full-fledged workshop, is able to replace it.

General table characteristics

Milling cutter for wood processing - one of the main necessary hand tools. It is used to create grooves, grooves, processing edges of the material, making spike connection.

Its use is complicated when it is necessary to hold the material at the same time and wield the mill with the other hand. The self-made table for a manual milling cutter solves such a problem. It is an addition to this tool, makes it more efficient, increases the number of possible manipulations. Often parts are made on it not worse than on professional milling machines. The advantage of a homemade table is that you can make it just for the individual needs of the master.

Before such works make a drawing. It shows all the dimensions, design features, individual details, their location to each other.

  • for supports (legs), four square bars in a section or two thick solid plates;
  • wood sheets, plywood; dimensions are pre-measured and indicated on the drawing;
  • self-tapping screws, bolts, corners and under;
  • jack;
  • metal profile, aluminum guides and 6 mm steel plate;
  • carriage emphasis; it will be mobile and act as a guide;
  • frezer

The central element of the design is the router. A quality tool is equipped with a soft start system and a quick installation mechanism. A sign of a good device is the ability to replace motor brushes without opening the case. The power should be about 2 KW, this will allow working with a wide range of wood hardness. Check if there is an adjustment of speed, almost all models are equipped with it.

Step-by-step guide: recommendations

The bed. This is the frame of the table on which the tabletop is mounted. It is made from different materials, metal, wood plates. The bed must be very stable and rigid. The parameters are selected on the basis of individual needs, the tables can be very compact and quite overall.

If possible, the lower part is deepened, it will give the structure durability and reduce vibration. You can make adjustable supports, they allow you to work on an uneven plane. First you need to make the basis of the table. This will require four bars - table legs. Frame supports can be made of two solid panels on the left and right side, but you can also on the four bars-legs.

They must be thick enough, the height is selected for their individual needs. Also required chipboard trim or pieces of fairly thick plywood. They are used as additional reinforcing elements (strips) and are mounted horizontally on the bars below and above. Their sizes at the bottom may be narrower, at the top - wider. On the right side there is a wide strap, a hole is made in it under the start button. It connects to the router.

Tabletop. To simplify the manufacture, you can take the materials at hand. A kitchen tabletop made of plastic or coated with plastic is suitable for a bed. The surface will fit well, the material will slide comfortably.

The table top is also made of wood paneling (chipboard and the like), a solid piece of wood. It is made lifting on loops on the one hand, because the mill is mounted below. It rises and is set in the desired position with the tool.

On top of the tabletop, you need to mount the carriage-emphasis. She will allow to move preparation smoothly. A groove is cut in the table top along the entire length, a metal profile is installed in it, it serves as a groove, a guide moves along it. The groove should be flat. For the carriage fit the guide of the old saw.

Longitudinal plank stop. Further, the support is mounted along the table. It is perpendicular to the horizontal plane of the table plank. It is made of chipboard and must be movable in order to be able to adjust the gaps around the cutter. To do this, cut in the upper part of the grooves, it is attached to the table with latches.

A small hole is made in the middle of it, so that chips can be drawn through it. They make a box out of thin sheets of plywood, it looks like a cube, on the back side of it they make a hole for the vacuum cleaner hose, it will remove chips and dust. The box is fixed on the back side of the perpendicular plank.

Mounting plate. Next, you need to fix the steel plate, a semicircular hole for the mill is cut in it, it covers the surface near it. It is made recessed into wood so that the material does not cling to the edges. Below it will be attached to the router.

The plate on the table is taken from a thin material and at the same time with high strength, metal is excellent, but also textolite (it is easy to process). In any case, it can be quickly replaced. So, the plate should have a round hole for the cutter, four holes for fastening, to be recessed into the table.

Extra points

A plate is applied to it, its position is marked with a pencil. The seat should ideally fit it, the material should not cling or fall through, gliding over it. Further, a hole is made in the shape of the milling cutter, it will be inserted there and fastened to the plate. Sometimes the table is equipped with a clamp for the material.

Tool box. For the router, an additional box-support is made of 15 mm plywood, it is attached to the table top from below, and a router and a jack will be placed in it.

The tool is placed in the box below and is attached to its sole made of aluminum to the plate. The latter has a pre-cut hole for the head cutter. The fixing is done with bolts, in the sole holes are drilled for them, as in the plate and the table top. It is better to fix it directly into the plate; for this, a cutter is made under the plate in the tabletop under the plate. This will make the milling depth range large and easy to replace the milling cutter.

Height adjustment. Mounted lift tool for this set in the box jack, it will help adjust the height of the cutter. Handles are removed from the tool and guides are installed in their place, they are connected to the jack.

And finally, the milling table should have a protective screen and an emergency stop button. Equip the table with good lighting.
