For drills a tool is used, which is a cylindrical metal rod. It consists of three parts - the working part, the shank and the neck. For fixing serves as a shank, which may differ in the shape of its cross-section (circle, triangle, quadrangle). In most cases, devices are used with a round shank. The device of the cartridge for the drill.
The absolute majority of household tools contain a cam cartridge. Such components are made in the form of a cylindrical body, on the surface of which the adjusting ring (sleeve) moves. Cams are placed inside the cylinder, which due to the tapered execution of their surface approach each other as the ring rotates clockwise and moves away when moving counterclockwise.
A shank is inserted into the gap between the cams. Closing, the cams fix the working body in the cartridge. This design of the cartridge allows you to clamp work items with a shank of cylindrical type of different diameter. Cam for household drills are available with a standard range of fixed drills - 0.8-10 mm and 1.5-13 mm.
Cartridges for household drills are made with two options of clips - usual (key or gear-circular) and fast-clamping. In a conventional cartridge, the movement of the adjusting ring is provided by a gear drive using a special key. In the keyless chuck to set the movement of the cams, a metal sleeve with a grooved surface is used. Rotation of the sleeve is carried out manually. In the design of fast-clamping specimens, locking or clamping elements can be used to limit the tightening force. In such cases, the end of the clamping of the cutting element is fixed by clicking or triggering a blocking finger (button).
In addition, the cartridges can be one-or two-sleeve. In the first case, the rotation of the adjusting sleeve occurs relative to the body of the drill and it suffices to fix only it. In the second case, the sleeve moves relative to the second coupling (ring), which, in turn, can rotate relative to the body, which requires fixing the second coupling by hand while rotating the sleeve.Back to table of contents
How to insert a drill: basic requirements
Safety of work and quality of drilling is largely determined by how to insert the drill into the tool and fix it in the chuck. A loose drill can fly out and cause injury. Therefore, the first requirement - the work item must be securely fastened. To do this, it must be immersed in the cartridge until it stops. It is not recommended to increase the length of the working part due to incomplete entry of the shank. If the diameter of the working body is not within the guaranteed clamping range, then such a tool cannot be used.
The following condition - the drill in the drill should be fixed strictly along the axis. Any deviation of the drill from the axis will lead to poor-quality drilling (overestimation of the diameter of the hole, deviation of the hole from the round shape, or tortuosity of the hole in the thickness of the product) due to the effect of beating.Back to table of contents

Before you insert the drill into the drill, you must first check its performance, i.e. turn it on. Then you should check the cartridge. For what, first of all, it is necessary to de-energize the tool - all work on the installation of the drill is carried out in the state when the plug is disconnected from the mains! Manually, by rotating the sleeve counterclockwise, the chuck jaws are maximally set apart; and then turning the liner clockwise reduces them to the maximum. Rotation should be easy. If difficulties occur, lubricate.
After checking, the cams should be separated by a distance slightly larger than the drill diameter. Then you need to insert the cutting element into the cartridge until it stops. The drill is fastened in the quick-release copy by turning the sleeve clockwise by hand. In this case, with the other hand, the ring of the coupling is fixed at the bottom (with the two-coupling version) or the drill itself (with one coupling).

Rotation of the liner is performed until the latch clicks or triggers, and if they are not present in the drill, as long as manual rotation is possible with full force.
Installing the drill in the key chuck
In order to install the drill in such a drill, the same work is carried out as for the fast-tightening option. The difference lies in the method of rotation of the adjusting sleeve. In such a cartridge on the side of the sleeve there is a slot for inserting a special key. The key must be inserted into the slot and, turning clockwise until it stops, secure it.
At the end of the installation, it is necessary to check (visually and manually) the reliability of fastening and the location of the working element relative to the axis. After everything is done to insert the drill, the drill can be turned on and started to work.
