Perforators

Everyone who was engaged in apartment repair, at least once in a life thought of a question of acquisition of such tool as the perforator. So, why are tools of this class needed and how can they be useful when carrying out repair or construction work?

Perforator

The perforator is an indispensable device in construction. However, he needs constant care.

Punchers are a class of electrical tools that are designed to make holes in high-hardness building materials, such as stone, concrete, bricks. They, depending on the initial characteristics, can be used in three different modes: drilling, blow + drilling and just percussion work. Also, some types have a screwdriver function. The world's first instrument of this class was created in 1932 by the German company “BOSH”.

The main difference between a puncher and a no less popular tool, such as a drill, in a percussion mechanism, which has an electropneumatic or electromagnetic principle of operation.

The main characteristics of the punch

Punch device

The main characteristics of this electrical equipment, depending on the class, are:

  1. Strength (from 1 to 20 J). This parameter determines the size limit (diameter) of the drilled hole and depends on the power.
  2. Power (from 450 to 2000 W).
  3. Spindle speed (230 to 2300 rpm).
  4. The frequency of strokes (from 2150 to 5800 beats / min).
  5. A variety of installed chuck for mounting nozzles: SDS + (for nozzles with a diameter of up to 30 mm) and SDS-Max (for nozzles with a diameter of up to 52 mm). Drills, drills, chisels, crowns, etc. can act as nozzles.
  6. The mass of the tool (from 2.2 to 12 kg);
  7. Additional equipment. Depending on the price, technical characteristics and manufacturer of the equipment, spare parts, interchangeable handles, a set of nozzles of various diameters, shapes, etc. may be additionally supplied.

Depending on the technical characteristics of these appliances can be divided:

  • According to the number of use modes provided for single- (drilling only), two- (drilling, punch and drilling) and three-mode (drilling, punch and drilling, punch);
  • the type of placement of the engine in the device (horizontal and vertical or L-shaped);
  • by weight of equipment (light - up to 3 kg, average 3-5 kg, heavy - more than 5 kg);
  • on technical parameters and purposes of use (household, professional);
  • by the presence of useful functions and characteristics (blocking and protecting mechanisms, reverse, adjustment of parameters of use, additional lighting, etc.).

For the final decision on which particular punch is better, we will conduct a small comparison of the most common models of equipment on the modern market of power tools.

BLACK DECKER perforator

The BLACK DECKER puncher is convenient in use, will be suitable for the solution of only the elementary construction tasks.

This modification of the perforator has a minimum set of characteristics and modes, therefore it is not always convenient to use. It is suitable for solving only the simplest construction tasks.

Thus, we have reviewed in general terms the main representatives of the class of household perforators represented on the domestic market. The final choice depends on the purpose for which the equipment will be used, and your financial capabilities.

It should be noted that, in addition to household perforators, there are also professional tools that are also quite widely represented in the range of retail chains. To make a final decision on the choice of a particular model, it is necessary to review and compare the characteristics of the most popular models of perforators of the “pro” class. The main applied difference between household-class modifications and professional models lies in two characteristics: instrument reliability, i.e. in the duration of his time to failure, and in the duration of use of the tool without a break. However, it should be noted that the professional versions of perforators are, approximately, 3-5 times more expensive than household options. In addition, any power tool will sooner or later need maintenance, so you should take into account the additional costs of maintaining the device.

Now you should get acquainted with the most common representatives of professional models of drills available in the trading network.

Professional rotary hammers

Professional puncher

The device is a professional punch.

Their range is not as wide as that of household models. However, here there are options worthy of attention. Professional tools generally have the following technical parameters:

  • strength from 4.5 to 20.0 J;
  • power - over 900 W;
  • tool weight - over 4 kg;
  • spindle speed 230-450 rpm;
  • the engine in the case is located vertically;
  • cartridge for nozzles - SDS-Max;
  • basically are dual-mode;
  • have a minimum set of additional equipment due to the specificity of use (for example, for drilling holes of only large diameters).

At this point, we will start the comparison with the popular instruments of the Japanese brand MAKITA. So, HR 4011 C:

  • weight - 6.3 kg;
  • two modes of use (punch and drilling, punch);
  • power - 1.1 kW;
  • force - 9.5 j;
  • the highest frequency of beats per minute - 2750;
  • maximum diameter of drilling holes in concrete materials - 40 mm;
  • additional options: reverse, fault indicators, polymeric storage container.

His more powerful fellow is HR 5211 C:

  • weight - 10.8 kg;
  • two modes of use (punch and drilling, punch);
  • power - 1.5 kW;
  • force - 19.7 J;
  • the highest frequency of beats per minute per minute - 2150;
  • the maximum diameter of drilling holes in concrete materials - 52 mm;
  • additional options: auxiliary equipment, polymer container.

The model has one feature - there is no shock at idle, thereby increasing the service life of the product. The tool is designed for heavy loads.

Punch vibration damping

Vibration damping perforator.

For comparison with the professional MAKITA models, we present the technical data of the BOSH tools. Consider the model BOSH GBH 5-40 DCE:

  • weight - 6.8 kg;
  • two modes of use (punch and drilling, punch);
  • power - 1.15 kW;
  • force - 8.8 J;
  • the highest frequency of beats per minute - 3050;
  • maximum diameter of drilling holes in concrete materials - 40 mm;
  • Additional options: service display, plastic container for storage and movement.

And, finally, the most powerful tool from this BOSH line, ideal for hammering and fast drilling, is GBH 11 DE. Its main characteristics are:

  • weight - 11.1 kg;
  • two modes of use (punch and drilling, punch);
  • power - 1.5 kW;
  • Strength - 14.2 J;
  • the highest frequency of beats per minute - 2250;
  • the maximum diameter of drilling holes in concrete materials - 52 mm;
  • additional options: service display, plastic container.

Thus, comparing the main technical characteristics of models from different manufacturers, we can conclude that professional punchers are designed for serious intensive loads and can be involved in large-scale construction work. The high price and a sufficiently large mass of these devices makes it inappropriate to purchase them for home repairs and home use.

Punch Care

It should be noted that no matter which model of manufacturer you choose, any mechanism needs care and regular maintenance. Therefore, periodically, according to the instruction manual, you should clean the ventilation holes of the instrument, treat it with a special lubricant of the gearbox and drill before fixing it in the cartridge, timely replace the graphite brushes, etc. And, of course, it is necessary to strictly comply with safety requirements when working with this type of equipment.

Punch Tips

  1. Work intermittently. The unspoken rule: 45 minutes of use, then 15 minutes break. This will save the tool from premature failure.
  2. Do not use excessive force while using the punch, the drill and the hole should be on the same axis.
  3. Use only the tooling specifically designed for this modification of the tool.

Always wear protective gloves for work and do not allow the tool to overheat.
